COVID-19 has amplified the importance of this even further and I am lucky to be in a position to take a breath and get excited and ready for the next step. My emerging philosophy on work, purpose and impact is captured in my article 'Mastery and the Squiggly Line'. Shortly after the birth of my daughter, I attended 10 Billion Mouths - the flagship Tech Week event in Tauranga and was invited to join the Executive Council of the establishment board of Agritech NZ. After living and working in the UK, USA, Asia-Pac for years, my partner and I decided to take 6 months to see the world, expand our experience and immerse ourselves in the unfamiliar en route back to our home, New Zealand. Taking breathing space between roles has always been very important to us, resetting and exposing ourselves to situations and cultures that are different to our own. Not a holiday, but an incredible experience.

The UK arm of this team contributed to the transformation of a traditional mail-order wine merchant into the winner the Online Retailer of the Year and Wine Merchant of the Year (International Wine Challenge 2015)- Global project management of a personalisation and customer experience project, aimed at helping over 400,000 (UK alone) customers find relevant wines they will really enjoy, across all channels - Commissioning research and insight, trend and insight analysis of competitors within the wine industry and more broadly across digital customer experience, subscription / continuity business models Show less

Forming relationships was a real strength, and this enabled me to be highly effective across the different environments in which I found myself. Key to our approach and methodology was 'knowledge transfer' - we wrote reports, but most importantly we worked hand-in-glove with organisations to build capability internally, so we weren't needed forever. I've led and delivered sustainable improvements in business performance by:- creating innovative business models to keep ahead of the competition - redesigned the global business model for a £350m online wine retailer – including development of a robust business case and design implications for customer experience and the wider operating model- designing and implementing customer experience journeys with impact - executing effective organisational designs and operating models - developed the overall solution and implementation plan for a 3-year cultural change programme within one of the UK’s leading retail banks- embedding supportive values and behaviours- company lead for Boxwood's 'Customer Experience and Digital' practice, charged with thought-leadership in this areaCommitted to developing colleagues - mentor for junior staff at Boxwood. My partner and I took this time to explore our new home, in London. Living with friends in Hampstead Heath, we found our feet in what felt to be an interminable grey winter. The arrival of spring marked a new beginning and the start of our next adventure: for me, I was head-hunted by boutique change consultancy Boxwood and my partner worked for The Guardian News and Media Group as it transitioned from paper-first, to digital-first production.

After starting my MBA in NZ and studying part-time while I was practising law at Minter Ellison, I moved to Norway to complete it full-time at the BI School of Management. This allowed my to focus full time on the innovation and business elements, while being in the most amazing part of the world - what I can only describe as NZ on steroids. This was a really formative time in my life and career - I was transitioning out of law, and into something brand new.
