About Sarah Smith

My background is in psychology, having graduated from the Australian National University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours. My thesis focused on the concept of 'voice', and how giving employees a say on important decisions can increase their organisational engagement and satisfaction irrespective of outcomes.I’m truly passionate about my work and always eager to connect with other HR Professionals. In fact, I was a founding committee member of the Canberra HR Network, which hosts bi-monthly casual networking events. We held 10+ events, and the LinkedIn group now has over 500 members. Both my passion for learning, and my drive for continuous improvement has led me to complete a Graduate Certificate in Human Resources at Charles Sturt University, and continue on to complete AHRI's accreditation program.I’m always interested in hearing from like-minded professionals, so feel free to contact me if you’d like to connect.

    Communities@Work Jul 2016 - Mar 2017
    Greenway, Australian Capital Territory, Au
I was promoted to establish and lead a centralised recruitment and rostering team which represented a key strategic project for the executive in 2016. The Talent Management Team brought together all existing rostering, administration and recruitment resources with the goal of consolodating and improving our recruitment and workforce management practices to create organisational efficiencies. My team of 5 recruit for all positions in the organisation up to Senior Management (approximately 150+ per year), and produce weekly rosters for 29 child care sites (approximately 500 staff). Key Achievements:• Designed and implemented a workforce plan for the Talent Management Team that took advantage of each employee’s skills and expertise, while ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to changing workload demands• Successfully centralised the rostering of 13 child care sites where rosters were previously produced by individual managers. This was an incredibly high profile project with significant resistance from internal stakeholders. Successfully decreased agency usage by 50%• Volume recruitment: Designed and implemented a 4 step application and assessment process for the first “Ascend” Traineeship Program (20 places) which included video applications, custom designed practical assessment centres, psychometric assessment and behavioural interviews• System expert for easyEMPLOYER (rostering and time capture software) • Implemented X-Ref reference checking software for use in volume recruitment processes• Management of vendor relationships with two recruitment agencies for temp placements
