Sarah McClendon, PE, SE, LEED AP: I am a principal structural engineer and the owner of McClendon Engineering Inc. I am also a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE), and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). I knew at a relatively young age that I wanted to design buildings to stand up. I wasn’t one of those kids that were always taking things apart to figure out how they worked, but rather I was the kid building things in order to understand and appreciate the final product.My professional career started in Southern California and continues today in Boise, Idaho. Over the years I have embraced the importance of learning the building code inside and out. I have learned the art of making sure every detail, note, and building plan on my drawings tells a complete story of the finished structure; and that my calculations read like a novel describing how the structure supports the demanding loads from both humans and nature. I have advocated the philosophy that there is always more than one way to solve a problem, or in this case to build a building. My belief is that new construction is full of possibilities and existing construction is full of mysteries. Both provide their own unique opportunities for structural engineering creativity, challenging design parameters, and contributions to our community as a successful building project that we can all use and appreciate.It is this philosophy, combined with many years of personal experience that I have used as a foundation for McClendon Engineering: a foundation of passion, creativity, broad background, and practiced expertise for engineering buildings.Specialties: I specialize in structural engineering of commercial buildings in the Western United States. The construction materials I work with are timber, masonry, steel, concrete, and alternative (or green) building materials. I’m licensed to engineer commercial buildings in: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
