About Sarah Mccool , Phd
I am a social and behavioral scientist, a global health expert, an advocate for local solutions to global problems, and an 'accidental' anthropologist. I have worked on multiple projects spanning various health and development sectors since 2010. I supported a United States Agency for International Development (USAID)- funded child protection project in Haiti, and was Executive Director of a Haiti-based NGO that provides primary care to the rural population. While in this position, I worked with community partners, traditional birth attendants and midwives to reduce maternal and infant mortality through surveillance and skilled birth attendance. I also worked in the areas of tuberculosis surveillance and prevention in Asia. I completed a USAID Research & Development fellowship in Indonesia and consulted for a Fortune 500 company on methods for reducing tuberculosis incidence among garment factory workers in South Asia. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, my commentary appeared in print and on television for multiple national news outlets: the Associated Press, Washington Post, USA Today, ABC News, US News & World Report, NBC News, ABC News, and television appearances on Fox National News, CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell and MSNBC. I have had the opportunity to live in Singapore, Indonesia and Haiti and have studied and learned—to varying degrees—French, Haitian Creole, Bahasa Indonesia and BCS (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian) as a U.S. Department of State Critical Languages Scholar.
