This workshop series is taught by Sarah Michel who has 10+ years of mentoring and placing advanced degree candidates into roles within industry.If you complete this workshop, you’ll come away with a job readiness toolkit you can reuse for the rest of your career. You can expect to have a resume, LinkedIn profile, Cover Letter, References template, and more! This workshop is open to all advanced degree candidates, trainees, and young professionals interested in being employed in industry. It is designed to equip students to be successful in the job market by preparing them with the necessary skills to apply for and carry out a career in industry. Whether you’re a first year student or applying to jobs now, this series will help you prepare and refine yourself for the job application and interview process. Each session will be a lecture followed by some hands-on workshopping. We have optional recommended engagements (RE) and Build your Toolkit (BYT) steps along the way so that you can finish the series prepared for your future career! Participants are encouraged to attend all workshops, but may choose to attend as they please. Each workshop is stand alone and can be attended independently.

Strategically built hackathon model based on research and discussions with key stakeholders.• Implemented and executed two successful hackathons (2 day and 2 week model), while collecting data and indicators on models to build in curriculum and develop pathways to continue scale up of technologies developed during hackathon. • USAID Smart Pod – Manage project and funding awarded for USAID Emergency Smart Pod, Paul Allen Foundation Pharmacy & Lab units. Manage portfolio of low cost technologies and products that fit within the pod.• Partner with Baylor’s legal, licensing, finance, marketing and grants and contracts departments to manage various aspects of purchasing, invoicing, contracts, IP, and management of Baylor products. Working on technology license for India and setting up company spinoff for products and devices through this PodCo. • Assist in managing and overseeing business operations.• Manage accounting and financial functions for grants to forecast for grant end date and assure accuracy of transactions and they conform to College policy.

• Managed institutional initiatives related to strategic priorities of BCM including the Center for Globalization, National School of Tropical Medicine, and Health Policy Institute. Recruited, interviewed, hired and managed medical students and interns. Worked with international institutions to outline areas of collaboration and worked Legal, Finance, and other central BCM departments to execute and implement agreements. • Facilitated Institute on Science for Global Policy (ISGP) EPID forum to convene policymakers and scientific experts to debate issues related to emerging and persistent infectious disease to advance effective domestic and international policy decisions.

• Project manager and writer for the John M. Eisenberg Center for Clinical Decisions and Communications Science, the nation’s single translation and dissemination site for Comparative Effectiveness Research conducted by the Effective Health Care Program, a national program funded by the Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality.

Co-Founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports oppressed Christians of Egypt and Sudan in order to meet their most basic needs, so they may lead healthy and dignified lives while ultimately learning to sustain themselves. Serve on Board of Directors and in various other roles throughout the years.

Co-Founded Student Society for Global Health, scheduled events and worked with students to bring awareness to global health issues. Assisted faculty in managing daily classroom activities. Collaborated with faculty to create course syllabi and mentored graduate students.

Involved in media outreach and global health policy events. Created the health systems communications strategy and implemented it into US Global Health Policy recommendations. Wrote press releases, Op-Eds, and blogs pertaining to global health summits and policy efforts.

Conducted needs assessment for St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities using qualitative research methods to perform an ethnographic analysis of the Sudanese refugee community. Facilitated in-depth interviews and focus groups, transcribed data and mapped themes.

Managed annual budget and breakdown of monthly revenue reports and projections. Advocated and raised funds through social media, public relations, and advertising. Managed and updated company website and authored e-newsletters and annual reports. Planned and prepared for fundraising events. Launched and co-lead young professionals group to promote volunteerism and philanthropy.

Worked alongside Bread for the World's grant management team. Researched and solicited foundations for grant funding opportunities. Maintained a large database of foundations through Microsoft Access.

Managed satellite office in Hutto, Texas that was away from the main newsroom, located in Taylor, Texas. Researched, wrote, photographed and edited five articles (500 words) for weekly newspaper. Covered city council meetings, school functions, and town activities. Met with local government and school board officials to discuss community concerns and updates. Consistently met or beat story deadlines following AP style.

Helped compile various magazines for Emmis Publishing by fact checking, writing short pieces, locating photos, and constructing online surveys for readers to participate in.

Researched, wrote, and edited 2-3 news stories per week concerning on campus events, faculty policy and grievances, and student issues and concerns, as well as citywide stories. Covered three day international conference held by the National Arab American Journalist Association addressing Israel/Palestine issues, Egypt's government, and the Iraq war. Interviewed news director of Al- Jazeera, concerning footage shown during the war, discussed the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, the struggle for accurate and unbiased reporting on issue in the Middle East with Israel as a proxy for

Assisted reporters during interviews by asking questions and taking background notes. Watched videos and composed voice-overs with information and news footage for television news publication concerning timely news events such as fires and extreme weather conditions. Wrote stories that were posted on the News 8 Austin Website. Made daily beat checks while listening to police scanners for possible emergencies.

Collaborated with News department in creating reportable stories and informing students about important issues on campus. Planned, researched, interviewed, and assembled three minute segments of news footage while anchoring for live news updates.
