RADAR is a small contract company of the Memphis Fire Department that is dedicated to the mission of providing appropriate care for those calling for emergency medical services for non-emergent concerns. In this role, I worked alongside medical providers (MD, NP, PA, etc.), firefighter paramedics, and social workers to retrieve patient information, document the patient encounter, and facilitate proper communication between appropriate personnel and patients. In my time with RADAR, I have gained a better understanding of the conditions many people in my community live in and the barriers they encounter when trying to access appropriate medical services. My time in this role has taught me about the importance of clinical evaluation, exposed me to the complexities of many patient cases especially those who are impoverished, and further developed my passion for serving those individuals.

I worked as a medical scribe for a small company (BCOES, previously Washopps) supplying ER physicians of the Saint Francis Hospitals in Memphis, TN with medical scribes. In this role, I worked alongside ER physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assist with documentation of patient encounters, retrieval of patient lab work and radiology reports, and communication between the physician and other healthcare workers. All of this was done to reduce the workload of the physician, so that they may provide a higher level of care to more individuals in need. During my time in this position, I was able to experience a variety of emergent patient encounters and procedures as well as gain a better understanding of emergency medicine and EMR documentation. This position was also the beginning of my passion to educate and serve underserved populations in a medical setting.
