Consultant, Advisor, Strategic Thinker, Project Facilitator
Associate Director | Global Head Of Business Development
As MVRDV's Global Head of Business Development, I lead the business development team, contributing to the strategic development of MVRDV globally, working with potential clients and collaborators to realize their projects with MVRDV. It was the philosophy and inclusive approach of MVRDV that drew me back to the world of architecture after several years working with Starbucks EMEA.Having worked in many regions I have found that the seeming nuances and/or vast differences of each locale demands a flexibility and openness to be able to gain insight into the place and people. As an entry point, sharing food is often my pathway to connect and pick up cultural markers; enthusiasm and curiosity for local fare is an easy opening into conversation and exchange. I believe that it is this interaction that feeds back to the importance of connection, and of delivering architecture that enables that community.Living in Rotterdam now, I have called many places home including Milwaukee, Washington DC, London, Dublin, Los Angeles, New York and Amsterdam. I received my Master’s in Architecture from UCLA, my Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design and I'm a licensed architect in the State of New York.
Store Development & Real Estate - Manager
Our team led new store development and existing store portfolio management within the EMEA region (c.42 countries). Together we supported the strategic planning and implementation of new store openings in each market. Working closely with the various local partners, my responsibilities included managing the physical real estate portfolio, including providing leadership on the real estate strategy, supporting the business model, and liaising with the operations, design and construction teams, for both new and existing stores. In this role I guided, influenced and coached on all the above elements to help make local partners more successful, achieve yearly development targets and to ensure that the Starbucks concept was safeguarded in the market.
Design Manager
Design Manager for Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic markets (+30 stores a year); design manager for Turkish market (+60 stores a year) March – September 2015. Responsibilities include: developing design for mainly new retail stores (with a percentage of renovations); managing fast paced design process (typically 7-8 weeks – concept to final design documents); leading and mentoring a team consisting of two additional designers in Amsterdam, directing an outsourcing production company, and local construction and operations teams in each market; necessity for proactive communication of the design intent, and proposing creative solutions for value engineering and planning to various teams, internal and external. Prior to the Turkish market worked in the South Gulf market (+60 stores a year) consisting of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Qatar, for one year, developing concept stores, high profile projects, and new construction drive-thru stores; and France (+30 stores a year), for one year, the highlight being the design of a 35 sq.m. jewel box Starbucks located on the balcony of ‘La Coupole” at Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
