My professional life exists where the Venn diagrams for "passionate about genetics," "loves the written word," and "wants to improve the scientific enterprise" intersect. I've built my career using exceptional communication skills to support researchers across genetics and genomics.In undergrad, I earned degrees in both English and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, finding fulfillment in the balance between the creative and analytical aspects of my interests. In grad school, I prioritized the development of my writing and editing abilities while performing my doctoral thesis on the intersection of developmental signaling with cancer, rooting my research in basic science that could one day impact human health.As Scientific Editor and Program Manager at the Genetics Society of America, I bring the fullness of my education and skills to a mission-driven environment in partnership with the genetics and genomics communities. I apply writing, editing, and thought leadership to scholarly publishing, public-facing communications, and marketing and outreach.Completing a PhD in the biomedical sciences was the most challenging feat I've undertaken, and my experiences in academia made me certain that there is a more vibrant, inclusive, and equitable scientific enterprise out there if we want it. I'm grateful to work with GSA's Equity and Inclusion Committee and in partnership with the Personal Genetics Education Project (PGED) and the Reclaiming STEM Institute on ways to realize that future.And in case that wasn't enough, I am also a photographer and small-business owner! Photography and visual design have helped me nurture the creativity in my life alongside all that science.
