With an academic background in Social Science and Journalism, Sarah (SOS) has worked as an independent education consultant in Latin America since 2013. Clients include the British Council, DESE, the Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment; Education in Ireland (the Irish governmental agency responsible for the promotion of higher education institutions in international markets); Science Foundation Ireland; Cormack Consultancy Group; GoMappED; University College Cork; University of Limerick; International Management Institute; Emerald Cultural Institute. SOS Latin America Education Consultancy offers a range of services to international education clients that are interested in increased engagement with the region, including boutique market research, student recruitment strategy development, in-market representation, and event management. In September 2021, SOS organised 'Canada Careers', a hugely successful virtual student recruitment event for 15 Canadian colleges and universities, aimed at students in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and Peru. Sarah is a member of the International Board of ANEBHI, the Brazilian National Association for Hybrid Education, and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global Advisory Committee.Before moving to Brazil, Sarah was education correspondent for the Sunday Times (Ireland), and she continues to work in journalism and public relations on a project basis for clients from education, tourism and fintech backgrounds. Recently, Sarah wrote and curated a range of regional reports on Latin America trends in media consumption, streaming, corporate social responsibility, and search engine optimisation (SEO) as well as as in-depth analysis of tech trade between Ireland and Brazil. Sarah has been actively involved in social community projects in Rio de Janeiro since 2009. She acted as a volunteer art teacher in a project for children and adolescents in the Parada da Lucas favela (north zone of Rio de Janeiro) for many years and later developed an international volunteer programme with that project, fundraising to build lodgings for the volunteers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Sarah led an international fundraising project that directly supported hundreds of low income families in the Morro da Coroa favela community in Rio de Janeiro, buying groceries, household items and seasonal gifts for children.
