Sarah (she/her) serves as the Director of Security Operations at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she leads the oversight, execution, and monitoring of all tactical, operational, and strategic aspects of the school's enterprise security and data privacy program. Beyond her role at Harvard, Sarah serves as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and is the Vice President of Information Technology and Cybersecurity at Out in National Security, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ representation and inclusion in national security. Prior to her work in higher-education and the military, Sarah served as Special Agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, National Security Unit where her caseload included investigations involving terrorism, crimes against humanity, and child exploitation.

    Partnering with key administrative, technical, and executive leadership across HGSE and University, the Director of Security Operations is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of Harvard’s enterprise security and information risk management vision, strategy, and program at HGSE to ensure the School operates in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. In addition to assuming all functional responsibilities of the Information Security Officer (ISO) role (see 04/2012 – 06/2019), the expanded Director role also provides strategic oversight and operational governance of HGSE’s change, release, and configuration management program to ensure the successful delivery of services across the IT organization, thereby preventing incidents, minimizing downtime, and avoiding the introduction of unnecessary risk to the HGSE’s critical resources. Other major duties and responsibilities include: Protecting the integrity of assets, services, and other configuration items (CIs) under the control of HGSE IT through the service delivery lifecycle by establishing comprehensive change, release, and configuration management programs to ensure that only authorized changes are made, and only authorized components are used; Ensuring assets, services, and CIs are identified, controlled, audited, and properly cared for throughout their lifecycle, to include recording versions, baselines, constituent components, attributes, and relationship mapping; Collaborating closely with HGSE and University IT service owners and internal change advisory boards (CABs) as initiatives move through the delivery lifecycle to ensure policies and programs are effectively communicated, correctly executed, and consistently audited against a best practice model for adherence; and Ensuring executive leadership alignment on planned changes, process objectives, and organizational policies for cross-functional change, release, and configuration management.
