The Weston Conservation Commission is tasked with protecting the water ways and wetlands of Weston, CT. The commission reviews land use applications on properties near wetlands to make sure that the project being proposed will not have a negative impact on the wetlands.

Provided technical understanding and strategic guidance for DHL’s heavy freight division automating creation of 1,250 reports for 260 customers. Analyzed data to identify data integrity issues and take corrective action. Selected as reporting subject matter expert for DHL’s new forwarding environment.

Designed and developed a database in Access to expedite mass mailings, manage donations, and automate donation acknowledgement in order to improve the fundraising efforts. Created tables using town voter registration files and historical donation data. Built a user friendly interface to enter donations and print thank you notes. Created reports to help WVEMS better understand donation data. The system resulted in a 22% increase in donations by providing detailed analytics on giving history allowing targeted solicitations to donors who had a gap in giving.

Designed and supervised creation of a SQL Server 2000 data warehouse to store data from multiple data sources. Developed logic to select customer specific data from global company wide data sources. Worked with internal departments to access new data sources and created programming logic to transform downloads into streamlined data tables. Developed complex Crystal Report templates to provide regional and global performance reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action recommendations across multiple DHL products for over 100 of DHL’s highest revenue customers. Worked for one of the premier ecological research stations in the U.S. on a project funded by the National Science Foundation. Intensively analyzed a long-term data set using SAS for basic and multivariate statistics such as t-tests, ANOVAs, MANOVA’s, and ordination. Used Microsoft Excel extensively for graphing and data manipulation. Prepared the analyses for presentation at scientific conferences and for publication in scientific journals. Developed a protocol to sample trees for the first time in the 50 year history of the study. Participated in the yearly data collection trip and updated the data set with new data. Researched similar studies and associated processes in scientific journals. Designed and constructed an educational web site providing background information and future goals for the study.

Received an Individual Student Research Grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to research a previously unstudied forest type for the State of Maine’s Natural Areas Program. Independently designed and completed fieldwork collecting data to characterize the rare oak beech forest type. Documented the historical land ownership and use of the sites using deeds, local histories, and historical societies. Prepared a presentation of the study and delivered it in two open forums at Bates College. Submitted results in a one hundred and fifty page thesis describing the study and defended findings before a panel of four experts.
