Responsibilities included but not limited to; agreeing User (Patient and Carer) Involvement Guidelines and Strategy documents and policies, meeting National Peer Review standards and drawing up action plans where these were not met, agreeing Patient Information Pathways, ensuring patient and carer participation in new awareness campaigns and all tumour specific multi-professional groups. I organised consultations, annual conferences, wrote newsletters and website content. I was a member of the National Planning Committee for Patient Involvement in Cancer Service Improvement working closely with the Department of Health. I also had the privilege of lecturing at Oxford Brookes University School of Health & Social Care to undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare students alongside cancer patients and family members who bravely shared their personal stories. In 2009 with partners in Research and Education I set up the Thames Valley Cancer Consumer Research Partnership and appointed a part-time facilitator, this group provided a vehicle for direct consumer input into cancer research across the region. A very proud achievement during this role was the 2012 Head & Neck Cancer Patient & Carer Information & Support day co-organised by myself and a gentleman with personal experience of head & neck cancer.
