- Co-op work experience placement with the Sector Development Branch- Worked on the Access to Land Project investigating opportunities for new entrants to access land for new agriculture enterprises- Collaborated with ministry staff, including business specialists, agrologists, and spatial analysts, to define project parameters, set project objectives, and identify analysis and data resources- Responsible for examining all Provincial Crown Land in the southern half of British Columbia in order to identify parcels of land that were capable of supporting agriculture activities and would be suitable for new entrants- Developed a procedure for examining Provincial Crown Land and identifying suitable parcels that incorporated spatial analysis with an examination of relevant legislations and policies, land and title information, and satellite photography- Managed a database of potential parcels identified through spatial analysis, as well as by ministry staff, which included information on location, agriculture capability, soil conditions, land use, and the history of ownership- Conducted field work with Ministry Agrologists examining potential parcels and recording observations - Adapted to changes in project parameters to ensure that the project was completed on time and met the Ministry’s objectives- Wrote a final report and presented analysis results at a monthly Branch meeting

- NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award winner with SFU’s Geography Department Soil Science Lab- Assisted graduate students with their ongoing research projects in the field by inspecting potential study locations, identifying vegetation, measuring tree characteristics, and collecting soil samples- Performed laboratory analyses on soil samples collected in the field, including measuring soil colour, pH, organic matter content, moisture content, and texture - Led analysis on determining the organic matter content of soil samples collected for the lab- Analyzed results of laboratory and field analyses using statistical software and created graphs and figures to showcase findings- Wrote lab procedure guide for determining the organic matter content of soil for future use in the lab- Developed and conducted experiments with fellow lab workers on how people measure soil colour, and the relationship between soil colour and organic matter- Wrote a literature review on the use of soil colour as an indirect measure of soil organic matter content, including researching the various ways soil colour can be measured
