Dillon Consulting Limited is Canadian firm that specializes in planning, engineering, environmental science, and management. I currently work in the civil infrastructure engineering service line that provides both design and inspection services for large infrastructure projects.As a civil engineer in training, I:- Completed the detailed design of municipal infrastructure projects including road improvements, intersection upgrades and underground sewer replacements.- Used AutoCAD Civil 3D to design alignments, typical sections, pipe networks, road grading and general project layouts.- Prepared design packages including Issued for Tender documents, contract drawings and Special Provisions.- Performed site inspections for quality assurance purposes.- Worked as part of the contract administration team on the Dundas Place project in London, Ontario. Dundas Place is London's first flex street in the downtown core. I was one of five new graduates hired into the President's Crew (Crew) program at Dillon Consulting. The Crew offered a unique learning experience as I had to opportunity to rotate between different offices at Dillon and experiment within the civil engineering field throughout my first year of work with the company. I completed three work placements over the duration of the program:London, Ontario (May 2017 - October 2017)I worked with the structural engineering and civil engineering service lines during my rotation. I mainly worked on Trowbridge Avenue, a civil infrastructure roads reconstruction project, as the construction inspector. I inspected the installation of watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers through both open cut construction and horizontal directional drilling. I tracked the progress and assembled monthly progress certificates with the contractor. During my rotation, I also completed various structural engineering designs of building foundations and aerial support poles conforming to Regional and Provincial specifications.Winnipeg, Manitoba (November 2017 - December 2018)I worked with the structural engineering team on the design drafting of the Waverley Underpass. I used AutoCAD on a daily basis to draft various bridge and road components. I was mainly tasked with the redesign of the median barriers and road profile.Toronto, Ontario (January 2017 - March 2018)I worked with the transportation engineering service line. I evaluated traffic volume and collision data in order to prepare traffic impact assessments. I used Synchro computer software to determine adequate traffic signal timings in areas projected for development. I also completed noise modelling assessments using Stamson computer software.
