I’m Sarah R. Pritchard and I’m a liberatory systems scientist. I help liberatory leaders & researchers understand the mechanics of oppressive systems – so you can throw a wrench in the gears instead of spinning your wheels.Through my teaching, facilitation, & mentoring, I’ve guided hundreds of people in learning how to apply systems science to equity and liberation problems domestically and abroad.I specialize in working with established & emerging leaders, researchers, activists, & anti-oppressive educators who hold liberatory, intersectional, feminist, and decolonial values. My clients are resisting oppressive systems and want to learn systems science tools to help them create real change, without getting bogged down by intractable problems and resistance to change.I talk a lot about Inequitable Systems Education because I want movement leaders to be equipped with the systems science tools to create transformative change. Instead, the tools we need are primarily available in graduate business schools.Dismantling oppressive systems is a messy, wicked, complex problem. Without access to systems education, it’s like activists & researchers are trying to dismantle a car engine and rebuild it as an electric vehicle. Without any training in auto-mechanics!When leaders don't have access to systems science education, they often move right into taking action without a detailed map of how the machine works. We often have a name for the machine: white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism... But the name doesn’t tell us how the machine is put together. And it doesn’t tell us where to throw a wrench in the gears. When leaders don’t have a detailed map of the system, they can end up:- Implementing programs that unintentionally make the problem worse- Taking action that inadvertently hurts the people they're trying to be in solidarity with- Expending a lot of effort on things that don’t end up making any impactAll of which maintains the current system.Instead, I help you develop the systems science skills to map how the machine works and chart a path for the world to come. I’ll show you how to:- Scope problems (instead of tackling everything! all at once!)- Map the structure of the system- Develop a strategy for where to throw a wrench in the gears- Engage with others in changing systemsThat way, you don’t get bogged down trying to disable the machine in a never-ending game of whack-a-mole.Instead, you have the skills to map out how it works and to create a strategy for moving from this world, to the world to come.Let’s chart a path together.
