I'm a planner, researcher, and teacher. I strive to understand the man-made forces acting on communities such as structural racism, economic incentives, zoning, and political boundaries like school districts. These forces often act at the expense of low income communities and communities of color -- because of the way these systems were designed -- and persist in the urban fabric. I believe the combination of using data and meaningful community engagement is key to understanding people's lived experience while making the wonky policies, concepts, and analyses we use more accessible to the communities ultimately impacted.
