Sarah Taher work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
I interned at Engicon as a mechanical engineering intern, rotating between the water, fire, and HVAC departments. During this time, I had the opportunity to engage in various multidisciplinary projects. In the water engineering department, I worked on the USAID Building Water Infrastructure Activity project. I started by assisting with technical writing and data reporting, eventually contributing to writing technical reports independently. I participated in site visits to wastewater treatment plants, assessing their operation and maintenance conditions. In the mechanical engineering department, I focused on HVAC systems. Based on client specifications, I performed heat loss calculations using the Hourly Analysis Program (HAP). I also learned to use AutoCAD for system designs. In addition, I spent some time on site and collaborated with mechanical engineers to resolve onsite design issues, addressing clashes between ergonomics, architectural designs, and the mechanical feasibility of systems (water, fire, and HVAC piping) not reflected in the CAD shop drawings. This experience allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and enhance my skills in client communication, technical report writing, and multidisciplinary collaboration. I am enthusiastic about the knowledge and skills I gained and look forward to applying them in future engineering endeavors.
Student Worker
As a student worker at the SaraBea center I have the ability to incorporate, organize exams and schedules for students with special accommodations to take their tests in the center. I am also involved in the role of being a scribe/notetaker /reader for students who have disabilities conveying their thoughts on paper. One of my favorite parts of the job is making new friends by accommodating students with visual disabilities by walking them around campus; to class/dining hall/dorm. I also operate the center's front desk by checking students in/out of exams and accommodating any needs they have.
Industrial Automation Engineer Intern
Over the past two months, my internship has provided me with a hands-on experience in industrial automation. I've delved deeply into process controls with distributed control systems (DCS), using Foxboro and Triconex safety networks. One of my key projects involved installing networks and remote terminal units (RTU) based on single line diagrams (SLDs), which gave me a solid understanding of network installation and configuration.I also took on the challenge of performing examinations and functionality tests on network systems. This included ensuring client connections through port verification, cable scheduling, and heat soak tests using Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Designing network controls was another exciting aspect of my role, where I considered factors like network topology, number of IOs, switch capacity, workstations, control rooms, and servers.A highlight of my internship was entering and winning a competition by creating a mock-up website that enhances augmented reality (AR) for clients to view Schneider Electric products. This project not only honed my technical skills but also my creativity and ability to think from a client’s perspective. Overall, this internship has been an incredible journey of learning and growth, reinforcing my passion for engineering and my commitment to making meaningful contributions in this field.
Data Research Intern
Over the past month, I have formulated Excel files with data gained from research on LP investor companies interested in funding Catalyst's next project. Moreover, I was in charge of conducting phone calls by reaching out to companies incorporated with UNICEF to offer Catalyst early-stage financing and mentoring for-profit technology startups especially related to funding for blockchain. I also accommodated company meetings with various fields (engineering, finance, and management) weekly for project updates and improved communication and presentation skills by presenting weekly progress. Furthermore, during this internship, I examined all parts of the company by rotating across fields from management, technicians, engineers, and project managers.
Architect Assistant Intern
- Explored in-progress construction sites by visiting private projects in Amman. Gained knowledge of what the engineers do on-site, visited the manufacturing sight of materials and foresaw my interest in engineering.- Composed the skill of visualizing designs as reality by transforming sketches and client requirements into models on Sketchup.- Analyzed and solved issues of house designs by meeting with clients and iterating back and forth between designs.
