Time Out magazine is a guide to the best cultural events happening in a city. I spent one year at Time Out Sydney and 4 years at Time Out New York, a weekly publication with a circulation of more than 300,000. I was Associate Editor and then Section Editor, with responsibility for Time Out New York's most trafficked web vertical (525k unique visitors/month).In this fast-paced publishing environment, planning, prioritisation and time management were essential to my success in meeting deadlines and running my sections smoothly. I managed a small in-house team as well as freelancers, and engaged and coordinated colleagues from across the magazine while leading several large feature projects. I kept my finger on the pulse of the city that never sleeps, curated what was worth people's time and attention, and took special interest in unearthing underground and lesser-known events and venues. I even made it onto the magazine cover a few times!

This was a 6 month contract position launching a new website for young people affected by cancer. I worked closely with developers to improve UX and site functionality, fostered and grew an online community, created digital health resources, and edited a weekly newsletter and blog. Young people involved in Canteen were consulted throughout the creation of this new service. Creating a website not just for, but with, the end users was a fantastic experience that taught me a lot about stakeholder engagement, sensitivity and respect.

I was hired as a staff writer and promoted a year later to Senior Editor, creating custom digital travel and food content (a pretty great first job!). In this role I ran the content calendar, managed a national team of writers and photographers, and liaised directly with clients including Telstra and the Lifestyle Channel.
