I have worked at GGFL LLP for my entire professional career. I started as a Carleton University Co-op student in 2008 and joined the firm full time in 2010. I am a Principal in Assurance and Advisory services, and the firm’s Director of Standards. I value my relationships with clients and I take pride in being a trusted advisor to business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders of not-for-profit organizations. It’s no secret that I’m an accounting nerd at heart! My passion lies in translating numbers and rules into plain language to provide meaningful insight and guidance. (...I also love a good spreadsheet.)If I wasn’t an accountant, I might have been a teacher. In my role as Director of Standards, I get to be both. I make sure GGFL professional staff have the training and tools to support quality work that complies with ever-evolving professional standards. I enjoy being an internal, informal instructor and consultant on technical accounting and assurance matters.I believe in giving back to the community. I volunteered on the board of directors of the Ottawa Food Bank from 2015 to 2022. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of an organization that is a pillar of the community and a leader in the fight against food insecurity. I’ve learned so much from my time on the board. Not least of all, what it’s like to be on the other side of the boardroom table from the auditor. This experience has given me a deeper perspective and helped me develop a very collaborative approach to assurance engagements.I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia but I grew up in Ottawa. For a maritimer out of water, Ottawa is a great little big city to land in. When I’m not working, I love to be outside taking advantage of all this beautiful city has to offer - whether it’s hiking in Gatineau Park, cycling along the Ottawa River, or skating on the Rideau Canal.
