After completing a five week internship with Vegan Outreach at the end of 2017, I was hired as an Outreach Coordinator. After a year of traveling throughout the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Oklahoma, I was promoted to Texas Community Outreach Coordinator and spent most of my time traveling within the state of Texas. My job duties included coordinating with colleges and universities to organize and set up tabling events where I would speak to students and staff, provide them with pro-vegan literature, show virtual reality videos, hand out vegan food samples, and sign people up for our 10 Weeks to Vegan email series. I also worked events like VegFests and local markets. My position required logistical duties such as keeping track of tens of thousands of booklets, organizing volunteers along my travel route, and securing my own lodging. I strategically planned my own travel routes in order to reach the most schools and events by driving the least amount of miles. I had to pay special attention to holidays, season breaks, and school closures. I submitted daily reports logging the number of materials used and the number of people reached. It was a multi-faceted job that presented daily challenges, and I loved it!
