• Assisted Art Professor, Cat Balco, in instructing and leading high school students in the Student Apprenticeship Program sponsored by the gallery, where they worked together to paint large scale murals for a public art piece.• Taught students about the history of apprenticeship in art, the process of printmaking, and how to make their own books with prints that we made together at ECA’s printmaking studio in New Haven.• Took students on field trips throughout New Haven, including Yale Art Gallery and the fine art book center at Yale, led students through the process of developing their own symbols in their artwork and guided them in the process of creating handmade books with their prints and sketches that were made throughout the program.About SAP:The Summer Apprenticeship Program is an annual educational program open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with a teacher recommendation. Artspace is pleased to present this year's 10th master artist, Cat Balco. Each year, 12-15 New Haven high school students work with a master artist to complete a large scale, site-specific public art project in the Artspace Lot.
