The world of international education is a very exciting place to be! I love the fast pace of change and the possibility of making meaningful impact wherever you go. Having trained via the Schools Direct route in England’s North West, post NQT year, I embraced the fact that teaching is a ticket to anywhere. I’ve never looked back since. I love teaching science at all levels, enjoying the diversity of pedagogy moving through the year groups with my particular passion and expertise being in the field of Biology. Most recently I have been teaching to the AQA GCSE specification and transitioning to the Edexcel iGCSE course whilst preparing my sixth form A Level classes for the AQA examination. I am also currently delivering the IBDP Biology course and I am an EPQ mentor, so, juggling many plates but learning so much along the way! At KS3 I am familiar with many courses, particularly Exploring Science but I am passionate about coordinating a bespoke offering for our students utilising our departmental subject expertise. Notably, this year I have enjoyed being part of a ‘Community of Practice’ whereby we have developed a targeted area for improvement at a whole school level. More to come on this..! Meanwhile, I have been challenging myself to become involved in the offering of CPD, facilitating and delivering where possible. Previously I have enjoyed fulfilling a whole school management position leading the co-curriculum and I am excited to return to a position of responsibility this academic year as Assistant Head of Faculty. Curriculum design and leading a subject to provide the best opportunities and outcomes for our students is paramount. Additionally, I have in depth experience working with children with additional support needs having started my educational career working in a learning support department and taking some time post covid to return to working with children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, in particular, those in the care system. I am proud to say I’m now a trauma informed practitioner, thanks to my time as Education Lead at A Wilderness Way, which will forever remain relevant. With seven years of experience I feel confident in my trade but also like the best is yet to come! I truly enjoy the life long learning that being an educator provides and the endless routes and possibilities that lie ahead, the students and colleagues I’m yet to meet and the memories yet to be made. Life is what you make it and I’m so glad I chose to teach.
