At The Mercury News, I helped build a database on the California legislature's use of sponsored bills for an investigative story. I also helped with breaking news, including a front page story on PresidentObama's election night win.

I began working as an intern at the American Press after graduating from high school. I worked 40 hours a week, helping around the newsroom and writing stories. I was able to help cover Hurricane Katrina during my first summer, and returned the next summer to cover local news.

At the Reveille, I help post content to the Web site, including prepping photos in Adobe Photoshop, encoding video, re-writing headlines, adding online-only content and working to ensure the print version translates clearly to the web. That academic year, the Reveille Web site won the 2008 Editor & Publisher EPpy for best college newspaper Web site.

As one of four managers at the Reveille, I helped manage news content, edit stories and lay out pages using Quark and Adobe InDesign. I also helped train new reporters, and planned long-term stories and online content.

I gained valuable newsroom experience working weekends and several week nights in The Advocate's newsroom. I got to interact with the reporters, and made many valuable connections.

I wrote four to five times per week for the student newspaper, covering beats such as state government, the Louisiana State University system and board of supervisors, Greek affairs and general assignments.

Santa Clara University’s student newspaper, The Santa Clara, printed weekly. I covered housing and University affairs.
