I’ve worked for Davis Graham & Stubbs, a Rocky Mountain regional law firm located in Colorado, for nearly 20 years. I’ve seen DGS from almost every angle – summer clerk, associate, partner and now as the firm’s director of business development. As a lawyer I represented clients in public and private securities offerings, merger and acquisition transactions and corporate financings. I also counseled clients on corporate governance and securities law compliance issues.In 2002 I had the opportunity to focus on the business side of DGS and left the practice of law to become the firm’s director of business development. I am fortunate to be doing what I love: working with outstanding attorneys to promote great relationships with clients, prospective clients, referral sources and members of the community. My best days are spent learning about the interesting matters our attorneys are handling and brainstorming with them about how to make the most of the opportunities they see ahead.I lead a small team of marketing staff who help our lawyers and practice groups reach their goals. Some of the things we do every day include: ►Strategic planning for individuals, groups, events & initiatives ►Working to gauge and improve client satisfaction ►Researching information to support pitches, proposals, teams & events ►Promoting the expertise of our lawyers in the media ►Capturing & publishing descriptions & examples of the firm’s experience ►Teaching business development & client relationship skills ►Writing pitches and proposals for new work ►Planning opportunities for our lawyers to meet others in the business communityIn my spare (professional) time, I am an avid reader of economics, history, legal industry trends and organizational development. I enjoy public speaking and look at every presentation as a learning opportunity.
