Sara and a group of giving circle networks' leaders had a dream to catapult the giving circle movement onto the global stage, so they co-designed an organization that is now led by Sara. She built a team, articulated their vision, and created an impactful program to get there. PhT is accomplishing its mission to establish 3,000 active giving circles with 350,000 individuals by 2025 by training hundreds of civic-minded individuals worldwide in giving circle development through their “Launchpad” leadership program. They also promote visibility through pop-up experiences focused on introducing companies and employee resource groups to collective giving. Sara has presented as a keynote speaker at many philanthropy conferences and meetings to encourage field-wide conversations and engage dozens of giving circles in communities of practice centering on embedding racial equity into giving circles’ culture, grantmaking, and community impact. To sustain the giving circle movement, PhT has developed a Global Giving Circle Directory, We Give Summit, a Network Braintrust, and an Advisory Council.

Sara thoughtfully guided development strategies to promote a “Culture of Philanthropy” to 120 employees and the Board of Directors (BOD) while stimulating donor acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship to achieve strategic goals. She helped an events team to double the 25th Anniversary Gala revenue target and implement intimate events to open meaningful dialogue with high-net-worth donors. By launching the “Women of Opportunity” initiative, she created meaningful mentoring opportunities among women within a unique giving circle context. She secured a new revenue stream for the organization by converting Impact Investors’ notes into philanthropic gifts through stewardship and leveraged her language skills to convey OF’s mission to the Spanish-speaking community.

Sara started the Latino Giving Circle Network (LGCN) from scratch, which has become the largest network of Latinx philanthropists in the United States. This involved ensuring the integrity of commitments of 500+ donors, 75+ grantees, funders, and strategic partners while promoting operational excellence, driving policy advocacy, and championing community engagement. Sara delivered record annual gala revenue every year and led critical fundraising efforts to nearly triple the organization’s operating budget, including securing $1M from Google for LCF’s Nonprofit Accelerator. She advanced organizational rebranding efforts and traveled extensively to evangelize the LGCN, discuss BIPOC philanthropy, and share LCF’s unique model of people-powered philanthropy. To create a backbone infrastructure supporting the American Giving Circle Movement, Sara contributed to an 18-month co-design initiative funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Sara launched the first Latina Giving Circle with 14 donors, obtained multi-year funding from various organizations, and drove expansion through strategic events and campaigns. She hosted 2 galas with compelling keynotes and organized 2 Google Health and Tech Days, attracting 1,000+ Latinx family members and engaging corporate / local businesses. She tested ideas and individual donor engagement models through various fundraising campaigns, including the “Unleash Great Minds” campaign that generated record revenue in 10 days from the Board of Director’s friends and contacts.

Sara helped build key processes and programs elevating the LCF’s vision and mission. She spearheaded the annual gala production, engaging 500+ cross-sector leaders and boosting revenue by 40% YoY. She also organized a book drive with local ERGs and a Thanksgiving campaign to build trust, visibility, and donor engagement.

Sara participated for the first time in the giving circle movement by mobilizing dozens of Latina professionals to participate in an annual fundraiser supporting grassroots nonprofits, while increasing their awareness and engagement with their community. She built and maintained cross-sector relationships and co-chaired fundraising initiatives benefitting AVANCE, a nonprofit striving to ensure access to early childhood education for Latinx kids.
