Served as the chief storyteller and brand builder, designed people practices and collaborated with others to foster a vibrant culture for this 20-person creative consulting firm, as well as acting as a creative director and strategist for client research, branding, experience design, and strategic planning projects. Clients included American College of Sports Medicine and Indiana University Alumni Association.

Over time, assumed more responsibilities for marketing SmallBox and managing some of our cultural institutions like Factory Week and Think Kit, which eventually led to the Chief Culture Officer role.

Focused on marketing and business intelligence for clients ranging from artists to start ups. As a small, boutique agency, I helped with a wide range of design and consulting needs, including managing digital projects, designing visual assets for creative campaigns, analyzing campaign results, contributing to strategic plans, and mentoring clients with plan implementation. I also contributed to marketing and business development for the agency.

Created a comprehensive marketing & communications plan, informed by local and national market research to support United Way’s overall strategic plan. During this time, we had a special focus on digital strategy and using the web to building relationships with media, current and new supporters. Participated in national social media projects to help others learn how to navigate the digital space.

Planned fundraising, donor cultivation and volunteer events, including Art of Caring, a public art exhibit, which raised $17,000 in 2006 and Day of Caring, a community-wide volunteer blitz involving more than 800 volunteers. Founded Young Leaders United, a program for young professionals that encouraged philanthropy, volunteerism and leadership development. In the inaugural year, more than 250 people joined, and the same individuals increased giving more than 60%. Day-to-day duties included design and copywriting for print materials, press releases and web content.

Helped build a positive environment through hiring and development of 30 employees. Selected by the District Manager to relocate to a store with high turnover to rebuild a team and acclimate new managers. Drove sales through understanding book and gift trends, visual merchandising, and sales coaching, while controlling expenses by reviewing P&Ls, optimizing team schedules, and inventory management. Planned events, from small author readings to the Harry Potter Release Party for hundreds of guests.
