Provided strategic planning and decision making services to governments and community clients. Areas of focus included drainage servicing, stormwater and water resources management, watershed planning, and climate change adaptation. Primary activities included: assessment of stakeholders’ needs and objectives; understanding the regulatory frameworks; analyzing land use, climate, and hydrology; evaluating water management options; and developing strategic plans.Worked closely with governments and the development community to achieve more sustainable rainwater management/drainage servicing through the implementation of Low Impact Development (LID) designs. Primary services included: site design, development of design guidelines and standards, pilot testing innovative approaches, and providing education and training.

Vancouver, Canada Area

Studied the feasibility of retrofitting urban neighbourhoods with stormwater BMPs from social and engineering perspectives. Evaluated the impact of retrofitting single family homes with self-draining rain barrels on the hydrology of an urban stream in the City of Burnaby. Worked closely with the City of Burnaby to design and implement a communication campaign, recruit study participants, procure and install rain barrels, design and implement a 3-year weather and stream monitoring data collection program. Conducted research on topics in water resources including: water quality modelling of stormwater detention ponds and improving hydraulic performance of culverts. Role included: developing research proposals, securing funding, and carrying out literature reviews, technical analysis and reporting. Performed hydraulic, hydrological, and water quality modelling of stormwater management networks using programs such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, and Manifold.

Led a team of highly motivated individuals to organize advocacy and outreach initiatives targeted at improving Canada's international aid efforts, built strong relationships with members of parliament in the Lower Mainland, and represented EWB at public speaking engagements. Ensured UBC’s certification as the first Fair Trade University in Canada through cultivating student and faculty support for Fair Trade on UBC campus and through working with Fair Trade Canada to build a foundation for a national Fair Trade campaign.
