I love being a librarian/archivist - I can really geek out on it sometimes. Mostly, I love helping people - help them discover that yes, there are resources about "this" topic - help them be more efficient with their research - give them new tricks and tools - see the "light" go on - etc. - faculty, students, and community patrons alike.I am currently a part-time archivist at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, which now houses the new San Antonio Poetry Archive at Palo Alto College. My last position was as the Special Collections Librarian and Associate Professor at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, located in the heart of Texas Hill Country. Schreiner is a small school so I wore many hats - preservationist, archivist, special collections librarian, instruction librarian, reference librarian, committee member, faculty member, volunteer coordinator, blogger, etc.

Using a printed listed of author names found in the UMCP library catalog that did not have authority files found in Library of Congress, I verified and created authority files for more than 3000 names. I learned so much from this project, like understanding the necessity of a proper controlled vocabulary, as well as admiring the work that catalogers do. More than a decade later I still use lessons learned from my G.A. position occasionally.
