  As a Video Relay Sign Language Interpreter, my primary role is to facilitate effective communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals through a video relay service (VRS). My job functions include:- Providing accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation services between sign language users and spoken language users via video calls. This involves listening to the spoken message and accurately translating it into American Sign Language (ASL) or the relevant sign language, as well as voicing or typing the signed message to hearing individuals.- Demonstrating fluency in both sign language and spoken language to ensure clear and accurate interpretation. This includes maintaining a comprehensive understanding of ASL, as well as staying updated with linguistic variations and cultural nuances to ensure effective communication.- Understanding and respecting the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Deaf community. Being aware of the cultural norms, customs, and practices within the Deaf community and ensuring that interpretations reflect cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.- Utilizing video relay service platforms, specialized software, and equipment to facilitate seamless communication. This includes proficiency in operating video conferencing technology, maintaining confidentiality and privacy protocols, and troubleshooting technical issues that may arise during video calls.- Upholding professional ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality throughout the interpretation process. Adhering to the Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters, maintaining neutrality, and ensuring accuracy and impartiality in the interpretation while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the parties involved.- Effectively managing multiple tasks simultaneously, such as listening, interpreting, and typing or voicing messages, while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and promptness, utilizing strong organizational and time-management skills.
