About Sarath Penumuru

Hey there, hope you're having a great day!I’m currently building a training company in Dubai (Corpoladder), helping adults lose weight, teaching kids math and science and creating content on social media. And making some courses here and there while also raising 2 newborn kids. ——📍My backstory: I graduated from IIT Dhanbad in 2014 without a job, and a BTech degree in Petroleum Engineering. I was fortunate to land at BYJU'S Content and worked there for 7.5 years. I built and managed the content for the K10 and K12 segments across videos, books, digital games, phygital games, AR, VR, and blogs. I led a team of 120+ people and enabled the creation of innovative products like interactive learning simulations, practice simulators, and phygital board games. Meanwhile, I started working on an online fitness side-hustle. Starting in 2020 from scratch, I’ve since helped more than 1800+ people get healthy and fit along with my team of coaches. We generate leads through content marketing on social media and manage the end-to-end customer experience through WhatsApp. We have generated over 3 cr+ in sales with 0 marketing spend. My next job was at Flurn - India’s first apartment focused Edtech company. I launched and scaled new verticals like summer camp, foundation math and fitness - building them from scratch with program design, demand generation, supply generation, operations, marketing, and customer support. I also grew the existing business of acquiring new apartments and onboarding high-quality teachers as partners. In addition to my professional work, I also read and listen to books daily and share my learnings through content creation. I am always curious and eager to learn new things and take on new challenges. I believe that without making mistakes, no one can progress. I also believe that consistency, perseverance and communication are the key skills for success in any field. I am looking for opportunities to connect with like-minded people and make a positive impact on the world. If you want to chat, feel free to DM me.

What I learnt: • Games are much more complex compared to books and videos. And more expensive. • Vendors are hard to work with but reduce costs. What I felt: • Excited to finally have my own team of super-sharp people • Loved combining two of my favourite things: education and games • Stressed due to tough project deadlines and a side hustle
  • Byju'S (Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd.)
    Assistant Manager
    Byju'S (Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd.) Dec 2018 - Oct 2019
    Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
What I did: • Reviewed innovative workbooks created for grades 4-10 CBSE. The books were created keeping engagement in mind with very high-quality visuals and well-planned placement of thinking zones. • Wrote certain content pieces for grades 8-10 chemistry workbooks too. • Worked on the high-school chemistry product for the international markets but that got held up. • Started working on a new, exciting opportunity for interactive learning called Xplore. • Visited colleges and hired a lot of people. What I learnt: • Every medium of learning has its own merit and demerit. But everything is definitely useful. • Information can be assimilated only when its looked at from different angles and different sources. Each source adds a little extra touch. What I felt: Starting to feel that being an individual contributor, however good, isn’t enough. You need to build a team.
  • Byju'S
    Lead
    Byju'S Dec 2017 - Dec 2018
    Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
What I did: • Worked with Youtube celebrity teachers like Tyler Dewitt, Derek Mueller and Joe Hanson to create a Middle School video series for the English-speaking markets. • Research and developed the curriculum structure which could cater to those markets• Developed some of the most innovative video scripts for chemistry (IMO)What I learnt: • https://youtu.be/6OaIdwUdSxE - Teaching has to be made fun. Jargon is the worst. • There’s a tyranny of precision in education - where being right is valued over being understood. • Celebrities aren’t superhuman. They are just like us - but probably more disciplined. • The curriculum structure varies greatly across geographies. In fact, it varies teacher to teacher. There’s still a huge debate on what needs to be taught and why. What I felt: • Extremely satisfied to have created one of the best pieces of solo work in my life - my 100% original scripts for atomic structure and periodic table. • Excited to meet YouTube Celebs who I’d been watching for several years - fanboy moment.
  • Byju'S
    Senior Associate
    Byju'S Dec 2016 - Dec 2017
    Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
What I did: • Developed several learn journeys for users of JEE-NEET Chemistry which are directed paths (like lessons plans) combining videos, formative questions, adaptive questions, infographics and summative quizzes. This explains what it is: https://youtu.be/bsCMTnb1z68• Designed the icons for the modules too - given to me because of my creative bent. • Created practice and test modules for JEE-NEET Chemistry. • Mentoring and doubt-solving sessions with students What I learnt: • Grasped the life cycle of a digital education product end-to-end• Understood that sometimes grunt work is necessary. Work isn’t always fun or exciting. One cannot expect to always do glamorous work and outsource the grunt work. • In a couple of my mentoring sessions, I learnt that customers really liked the product. Negativity and poor customer service exists in all businesses. What I felt: • Lucky to be part of such a fast growing company. • A bit bored about the repetitive work.
  • Byju'S
    Content Associate
    Byju'S Dec 2015 - Dec 2016
    Greater Bengaluru Area
What I did: Worked with some amazing people to create the JEE-NEET Chemistry content: including videos, quizzes and assessments. This content is stil used in 2022 and is just starting to get upgraded. Here’s one of my videos: https://youtu.be/y60zqHi2zOEWhat I learnt: • The life cycle of video production pipeline for education: Pre-production, Production, and Post-production• Learnt the workings of an office environment, how to be honest without offending people, found my passion for science, education, writing and understood I was much more creative than I knew. What I felt: Being part of a growing startup was an incredible experience. The passion and dedication of the entire team was infectious. We were truly working towards making millions fall in love with learning and I think we achieved that to a great extent at the time.
