My current role in pharma medical affairs as a field based medical, has been a role that I have been working in since 2012. Its something that I love doing and very passionate about. My experiences over the years with different organizations like MSD , Merck and currently BMS India, working under and guided by different wonderful managers and CMDs has really shaped me into who I am today and I am forever indebted to each and everyone of them. More than anything , I honestly feel it is vital to develop a cordial and great connect health care professionals, Key opinion leaders and thought leaders in the therapy areas that we work in. Its no easy job, it is time consuming and can test your patience or even make you question your own confidence and ability many at times. But you need to cross that and be persistent. Because once a HCP/KOL/TL truly understands that you are a reliable person to provide them with accurate , unbiased , and practically applicable evidence based solutions to their requirements - they will truly value you. I believe it is extremely crucial to be updated in the therapy area you represent and work for. You need to take interest in what is happening in other sections of the therapy area, scourge through hundreds of journals REGULARLY , understand what it is and customise them and convey them in short to the HCP/KOL/TL . Another equally vital fact is you need to be equally devoted to simplify and lay down the evidences to the internal stakeholders in a very easily understandable and fun manner. Being proactive and punctual in my personal honest opinion , is the USP of rising up in this role. You also need to always think out of the box , think innovatively and always look at any situation as an opportunity to overcome it. To me punctuality is not just presenting yourself physically , but also in responding to actionable assigned to you or placed to you is the foundation mantra that has to be followed religiously. Having a great cordial working relationship with ALL you colleagues is most important. Its a small world and small life.. lets make every second worth it for us and those around us !!
