About Sara Richardson, P.E.

How does that work? The question that started it all. Growing up as a contractor’s daughter in an industry changing as quickly as this one gave me plenty of opportunity to ask and the folks to answer (thanks mom and dad). Now as an engineer I get to put all these years and answers to good use. Working within a budget, integrating multiple systems, maximizing efficiency, and solving problems are some of my favorite things. I am excited to see where the industry goes and even more excited to see projects come together and a happy owner when we finish.

From budgeting and proposal preparation through design and construction, I ensure project objectives are met and budgets are maintained.On the New Boston Air Force Station Sitewide Fiber Optic Upgrade project I designed a sitewide Fiber Optic Network to interconnect Fire Alarm Systems within 15 buildings on site. Working with a contractor to investigate I was able to install new cabling through the existing underground ductbank and manhole network.

    As Director of Engineering, I supported industrial and commercial Design+Build projects from the proposal stage through construction and closeout with cost estimating, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, reviews with the owner, construction administration, testing, and owner trainings. Working with the Navy and electrical contractor on multiple rehabilitation projects at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard I was able to maximize functionality and efficiency of their facilities, while working within the constraints of the contractor’s budget. At the Building 174 Rehabilitation project this included design of a 160,000sq-ft energy efficient lighting and controls system that included occupancy and vacancy sensing, daylight harvesting, and automated building controls. Building 174 went on to achieve LEED silver certification.
