SOCIAL VENTURES IN CAMBODIAWorld Hope International (WHI) is a worldwide NGO working with vulnerable and exploited communities to alleviate poverty, suffering, and injustice. They have been partnered with HESE in the development of social ventures, especially at their Makeni office in Sierra Leone. Broadly, HESE has provided the IP, continuing research/development and business design, while WHI provides local connections, financial support, and in-country oversight. This internship was established to assess how an informal "mushroom house" project among members of WHI's community bank in Kampong Cham could be product-ized into a replicable social business model. - Conducted a six-week ethnographic study of the current mushroom production practices, supply chain, and opportunities in Kampong Cham province- Performed market analysis to develop pricing strategy and collect market value data for other possible projects, including expansion of the HESE affordable greenhouse venture- Directed and oversaw the construction of a test greenhouse using locally available materials for future data comparison against our greenhouses in African markets/environments

PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCHThe Interdisciplinary Social Psychology Lab focuses on power and stereotyping with emphasis on social groups like race, class, sexual orientation, and age. This participant research involved two-person cognitive puzzle activities and assessing the speed of completion as well as body language using video analysis to determine the impact of different social pressures on behavior.- Conducted studies with undergraduate students on masculinity threats, stereotyping, as well as racial and gender prejudices under Dr. Theresa Vescio.- Analyzed data and conferred with PhD students and professors in team meetings to develop material for manuscripts, conferences, etc.
