My responsibilities included the image archives, its digitisation projects, library, and research-related activities, such as publications, of the museum. I was actively involved with open data and improving access into the museum's collections in general via various interfaces. I was also in charge, for my part, for curating the new permanent exhibition. My other duties comprised of curating temporary exhibitions, amongst others two exhibitions on shipboard animals and ports. I was also responsible for many international activities of the museum.I organised several public events, such as talks, at the Maritime Centre Vellamo.

Visiting lecturer at the University of Helsinki in Maritime History lecture series and in Folkloristic

I was first employed as research assistant in a pilot project in which I continued as research associate in a three-year Leverhulme-funded ‘Mercantile Liverpool Project’ from January 2004 onwards. In the main project I was researching the late 19th-century business culture. I was also liable for training and management of three research assistants, and analysing the available data that was being collected in to an extensive database.

I worked for numerous shipping companies in various positions before, during and after my student years as mess girl, cabin stewardess, photographer and engineer apprentice. I sailed mainly in the Baltic and the North Sea but also in the Mediterranean.
