About Sarah Foster
I am a natural when it comes to communication. Even though I have not been a journalist for more than 10 years now, the art of communication — particularly with the written word — comes easy to me. I often like to say I think with my fingers as I type out my thoughts before they consciously enter my brain. In 2018, I decided to stretch myself to try something new and began a temporary role in Emergency Management. I soon learned that many of the skills that made me a successful journalist were useful in Emergency Management as well: my curiosity, my drive, my strategic communications skills, and more. Back when I was a journalist, I couldn't imagine doing anything else professionally. It was who I am. But then I took the leap to Emergency Management and found something else that made me take pride in my work as much as being a journalist had. The other thing the leap to Emergency Management taught me is it is never too late to try something new or to reinvent yourself professionally. Especially since the core skills you have will follow you no matter what you do.
