Battery Workforce Challenge (BWC) is a DoE initiative with Stellantis as a major partner to develop a next-generation Battery workforce. This is a competition to design a fully functional EV battery pack from scratch for a fully commercial EV within a time frame of less than three years. I am the Engineering Manager of the Clemson team and oversee more than 20 undergraduate and graduate students involved in the competition.

Development of a versatile IEC 61850 adapter that enables the communication between central control system that uses conventional communication systems such as HDLC or CDT and the digital substations that uses IEC 61850 communication systems. (Two patents applied)In addition I was involved in METI project on standardization of Flexibility products for Distributed Energy Resources. I was involved in information exchange modeling and flexibility estimation and prediction. This is crucial for the future electricity market when renewable energy shares gets higher.I was involved in study of scheduling of Connect and Manage (Japanese version) resources using IEC 61850 as the communication platform. I was also a member of TC57, WG17 working committee and involved in standardization of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Worked on IEC 61850-7-420 Ed 2.0 ( and IEC 61850-7-520 Ed 1.0)

2015 Apr-2016 Oct: 1. Involved in development of CFD simulation software (implementation of advection and convection, tuning numerical viscosity) for simulation internal arc faults inside a switchgear. 2. Design of LV MCC (Type-D MCC): I was responsible to carry out internal arc simulations for 85kA tests.3. Sales engineering: Involved in estimation and preparation of BoM of MV/LV switch gears based on SLDs for various projects in Middle East and SE Asia. 2017-2019 Dec:Worked on next generation switch gears and protection relays for power systems.Involved in the design, development, testing and certification of HS-X-3 C-GIS, a flagship C-GIS product of Mitsubishi at 24-36kV and up to 40kA. Basically I was responsible for electrical and mechanical designing of SF6 tanks for VCB and ES/DS and panel design for internal arc. Conducted type testing for the same 36kV 40kA C-GIS at the KEMA laboratories, the Netherlands. Registered two patents for the design. 2019: Worked on the cost reduction project for HS-X-3 Switchgear with Indian ESOs. Shortlisted 3 (out of 10) Indian ESO, interviewed them and selected one for the project.
