About Saskia Rayner

My name is Saskia Rayner, and I have been teaching in primary schools for nearly 5 years full time. I adore working in the teaching industry and have ensured that I use my teaching skillset in a positive way to improve each classroom that I enter. My top teaching achievement by year:2020: I moved to New Zealand from the UK and began teaching only 3 weeks before the Corona pandemic shut down all schools. In this year my top teaching achievement was developing my empathy even more deeply as I connected with the families of my class and school who were struggling. I also had to strengthen my behaviour management skills very quickly. Many students returned to school with extreme social and emotional disregulation and struggled with basic respect. In time I have seen that other teachers also found this cohort challenging so it was useful to share the techniques I had researched and practiced in this year.2021: In this year my top teaching achievement was completing my teaching standards in New Zealand meaning I earned the status of 'full - teacher'. To do this I had to complete many different professional development and reflections.2022: This year I made a hard decision to return to the Northern Hemisphere despite loving my employment. This was truly because of Corona effects. I was given the opportunity to move to Germany, and begin working at an international school. In this year my biggest teaching achievement was learning how to navigate a dual-language framework. This required me to improve my personal skills for language both in and out of the school environment.2023: In 2023 my teaching achievement was creating a boundary and implementing behaviour values across both my class and within a weekly assembly. There was significant improvement in the challenging behaviours of this cohort including an end to physical violence within the classroom and a higher level of respect being woven into each learning day.2024: Upon evaluating the data for this year group (cohort of 23-24) I could see a clear rise in their reading levels and general academic attainment. As of July 2024 I made the decision to move back to the Southern Hemisphere in search of a new challenge and new learning possibilities. I am excited to see what comes next!
