CLOUD IMPLEMENTATION• As part of ongoing acquisitions, NASDAQ engaged AWS to make the transition more efficient. Always ON technology was implemented using windows 2012 and SQL server 2014 to overcome the shared disk limitation with the cloud environment. Although ISCSI was an option to create shared storage, it was found to be a maintenance hassle. • Lead efforts to migrate other databases (oracle, MySQL, and Aurora) to EC2 and RDS instances.• Built multi-site cluster across AWS availability zones, which reduces the cost on separate DR environments. This gave the ability for seamless failover without data loss during the planned maintenance, the ability for read-only databases for read-only activities like reports, and backup on secondary's. • Developed scripts to implement a hybrid SQL server environment between on-prem and AWS availability zones using SQL server mirroring and SQL authentication. Implemented TDE on the storage to encrypt at rest. • Developed a script to handle the replication to change the publisher during failover, due to the limitation with replications, which only uses the host name and not the AO listeners. Also implemented log shipping between on-perm to cloud, to overcome SQL server limitations since it only supports trusted domains to ship the log files.• Extensively used Data Migration Services when native backups were not supported, and seamless data movement for real time data migrations were needed. • For cost savings all historical market data were moved to external Azure blob storage, which significantly saved on storage costs.
