I am a Professor of Medicine, Founding Director, Digestive Health Center and Director, Director, Digestive Health Clinical Research Center, and the J Harold Harrison Distinguished University Chair, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, Augusta, GA. I am an academic gastroenterologist and a tenured professor of medicine with a 28-year tenure in leadership, innovative clinical research & education and quaternary care practice in USA, with specialist expertise in Neurogastroenterology/Motility (NGM). I moved to Augusta to lead, design and develop the first comprehensive and multidisciplinary Digestive Health Center, a 50,000 sq feet infrastructure, and serve as its Founding Director. I also spearheaded and directed the GI service line, and reported directly to the hospital CEO and Dean. Most significantly, I established an international center of excellence and training in NGM that attracts patients from all over USA. I am a highly productive, internationally recognized clinical & translational investigator with NIH funding for 20 years. I have published over 500 research papers, 9 books, hold 4 patents, 13300 citations and a H-index of 86. I am currently funded with UO-1 and a RO-1 NIH grants totaling $6.8 million and other grants. I designed and founded the first Digestive Health Clinical Research Center at Augusta, a 3500 sq feet Center. I am the only gastroenterologist to receive 3 meritorious honors from AGA, the most prestigious GI Society, the AGA Distinguished Clinician Award, AGA Distinguished Educator Award and AGA Masters Award for Clinical Research as well as University of Iowa Regents Award for Faculty Excellence and Augusta University Distinguished Research Award. Significantly, my mentees have received 33 meritorious awards.My unique strengths and skills as a renowned physician scientist and research mentor (75 fellows), a sought-after clinician and visiting professor, and past President of American Neurogastroenterology & Motility Society, where I raised $1.8 million in grant support to foster its research and education missions, and significant international leadership roles with the AGA, ACG, Royal College of Physicians and Federation of NGM Society and NIH study sections, advisory boards, and start-up companies, have given me the foundation to serve as a transformational leader. I now seek the opportunity to serve as Vice President for Research or Associate dean for academic affairs/research or a senior leadership position and the ability to develop an institute of NGM.
