Executive DirectorThe Sikh Coalition Feb 2018 - Mar 2022New York, Ny, UsI led the organization’s strategy, grew and transformed the culture of a team of 20 nationally, and increased revenue and community engagement for the most prominent Sikh civil rights organization. Under my leadership as executive director, the Sikh Coalition has passed hate crime laws at the state and federal levels, successfully fought back against attempts to roll back federal policies that protected Sikhs from discrimination, improved how Sikhism is taught in six new states, oversaw the development of classroom-ready resources, mobilized grassroots voter registration drives, and successfully litigated cases to set strong precedence against religious discrimination. Our team processed 200+ legal intakes annually and managed a caseload of ~30 cases at a time while advocating for improved policies and organizing our volunteer network to organize thousands of actions each year. I led the organization's response to the farmers’ protest in India, and provided crisis response support after the mass shooting in Indianapolis as well as redesigning the organization’s community organizing strategy and outreach during the pandemic. During this time, I raised the organizational budget by 30% and increased the endowment and emergency fund by 25% by scaling up donor gifts, increasing community engagement, and securing additional grants. I was responsible for transforming workplace culture, restructuring the organization and expanded program teams. I successfully designed and launched the legal advisory board and supported the expansion of the board of directors. I have been featured in the New York Times, AP, CNN, Newsweek, Al Jazeera, The Wire, and NBC. -
