I am an experienced strategy designer and specialist in organisational change management and strategic communication. Good communication doesn’t happen by accident. To drive outcomes, you need to plan to engage and communicate well. I work with organisations, national and international, public and private. I bring people who are responsible for designing public policy and services together with the people who are affected by those policies. I leverage academic research to better inform policy and services through association with the national News & Media Research Centre and University of Canberra. I work to improve outcomes for our communities by making relevant research accessible to government. In facilitating conversations between academia, policy makers and citizens, I work with them to design better policies and services grounded in solid research and clearly understood user needs. I am currently working towards my Masters in Strategic Communication focussing on how government can better use social media to engage with communities, particularly in crisis events. Before joining the consulting and academic worlds over five years ago, I clocked up years of experience (25+) in the federal public service in public policy and program design roles, predominantly in the international relations, law enforcement and immigration portfolios. I speak Japanese fluently, having spent over 8 years living and working in Japan including working for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and undertaking research into the role of grass roots women movements in Japanese politics in the law faculty of Kyoto University. Key strengths:• Strong background in research and analysis, including briefings and reports for the United Nations, Interpol, the Australian Federal Police, and the Attorney-General’s Department. • Designing communication strategies for clients to achieve organisational outcomes including the Department of Defence and Department of Human Services. • Extensive experience in community engagement to inform national policy including in Health (cancer screening).• Applying human-centred design principles and design thinking approaches to work and team management. • High level strategic planning and strong capability in synthesising complex issues.• Demonstrated inter-personal skills of a high order including liaison with high level company and foreign government officials, including facilitating a national symposium on Aged Care with international academics.• Board of Directors experience, executive positions in volunteer organisations.
