Materials and Manufacturing Processes

Working on competitive benchmarking of electrochemical energy storage technologies for stationary, portable and transportation applications. Industry consultations on manufacturing of storage devices including Li-ion batteries, Lithium-sulphur, Flow Batteries, Fuel cells, Supercapacitors and High temperature batteries. Focused R&D efforts on anode, cathode and electrolyte materials, cell design and testing and their effect effect on performance.

Working on electrolyte composition optimization for Lithium-sulphur batteries, organic electrode materials and supercapacitors.

• Enhancement of electrode materials cyclability, capacity retention and lifetime by synthesizing carbon based composities• Design and fabrication of battery prototypes for minimizing internal resistance and maximizing specific capacity• In-situ XRD investigation of electrode materials by using synchrotron beam (Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY)

• Enhancement of cathode material stability leading to a 400X improvement in lifetime by altering electrolyte composition • Partial replacement of cations in the cathode material with less expensive elements to leading to a 10% cost reduction of the material (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA)• Electrochemical and Electro-less deposition of Prussian Blue coatings on electrode particles (resulting in core-shell nanostructures) for enhancement of anode stability and lifetime

Research Project: LIQUID METAL BATTERIES •Optimization and characterization of TiN/TiAlN/ZrN/AlN prepared by PVD / CVD coating techniques for enhancement of corrosion resistance of cell components•Conceptualization and investigation of novel cell designs to enable capacity expansion •Post-mortem studies and analysis of failure mechanisms of cells•Seal testing to allow efficient cell stacking

Performed research on the development of enhanced PEM Fuel Cell electrolyte materials under a government funded project (US - National Science Foundation, CBET 0730900).

Performed atomistic simulations using GULP (Generalized Utility Lattice Program) to investigate: -Dopant suitability for achieving optimized conductivity in PEM electrolyte materials.-Proton incorporation mechanism in doped lanthanum phosphates.The research was performed under the guidance of Prof. M Saiful Islam at the Department of Chemistry.

During my internship at HAL, Lucknow (India) I worked on the programming of CNC machines.

KICIT is dedicated to the development of educational / learning material for well known softwares through the medium of books, seminars and workshops. During my internship I worked on the preparation of the same for DirectX software.
