I love what I do! My entire professional career has focused on death, dying, and preplanning. It is not as macabre as you may think! I find peace in helping my clients and their family prepare for the "inevitable" (death and taxes), and make life's transitions easier.I help clients navigate estate planning, as they focus on asset growth, to long-term care planning, where the focus shifts to asset preservation and care. After a death occurs, I help resolve contested Will or Trust issues (litigation), counsel on Medical Assistance claims, and guide families through the probate process.I love facing the challenges that arise while representing clients. I am a logical problem-solver and enthusiastic communicator. My areas of practice include: estate planning; elder law (long-term care planning, asset protection, and government benefits); estate administration (probate law); trust administration; litigation; and mortuary law.Elder Law consists of a variety of matters, such as:•Wills and trusts •Estate planning•Incapacity Planning: durable powers of attorney and health care directives•Long-term care planning •Guardianship and conservatorship•Medicare, Medical Assistance, Social Security, Veterans Benefits, & other public benefits•Supplemental and Special Needs Trusts•Probate and trust administration I specialize in working with personal injury/medical malpractice attorneys with settlement matters where disabled individuals are entitled to settlement funds while receiving government benefits. I work to ensure that the disabled beneficiary remains eligible for benefits. As a licensed mortician I am knowledgeable about mortuary/funeral service law and available for consult.I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), American Bar Association (ABA) Senior Lawyers Division, and ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Group. I am serving my second term as a Commissioner with the ABA Commission on Law and Aging.I do regular presentations on long-term care planning, estate planning, and preplanning for death.
