The impetus for the company’s name was created behind its philosophy; the idea being how one may hold all the moving parts of an operation in an efficient and working relationship. In a manual shift car, the clutch facilitates the changing of gears. When you try to change the gears without properly engaging the clutch, you hear a horrible noise. It’s the clutches synchromesh which facilitates the driving and driven gearwheels to revolve at the same speed during engagement, thereby easing the change. PTM Images, is a leading manufacturer of home décor and furnishings, distributing to a wide spectrum of retailers worldwide, from mass to specialty, as well as a broad array of online partners. PTM is the only vertically-integrated home décor manufacturer in North America. They invest heavily in modern equipment and business support, each of which function to ensure timely delivery of customer orders.

On the heels of selling Superba to PVH, a small handful of us hatched Shipwire, which was the first example of a small business dashboard. We offered an SAS and warehousing model which provided supply chain solutions that connected supply and demand from fulfillment, third party logistics, and drop-ship management. As a start-up, Shipwire was shopped by such players as EBay, Alibaba, and more; ultimately being acquired by Ingram Micro in 2010.

In my early 20s, I found myself at the push-end of a broom in the cutting rooms of one of the worlds leading tie manufacturers. I certainly thought something had gone very, very wrong. To start my leadership training in this family business, I’d been assigned to a no-nonsense Hungarian master maker. This old-world craftsman had free rein in deciding what my instruction would look like. In those early days, not long out of college, but with two years of traveling and working in Europe and Africa, I was sure the whole folly spelled nothing short of a disaster for my future.As Superba expanded, I moved up the ranks in managing the warehousing and logistics side of the business. The challenge of constructing and stream-lining our processes was exciting. As it turns out, that grumpy craftsman had taught me some of the most important fundamental skills and concepts I could ever hope to learn. The value of paying one’s dues and fully learning the intricacies of an operation are bar none. The company grew to be the largest tie manufacturer in the world, utilizing innovative strategies in brand licensing and niche marketing, two relatively new concepts in the neckwear trade at the time. H.C. Cohn & Co., was founded in 1873, becoming Superba Cravats in 1948, and later Superba, Inc. After 134 years in business, the company was sold to Phillips Van Heusen Corporation (PVH) in 2007 at the height of the necktie industry.
