  • Locbox
    Founder/Ceo
    Locbox Jan 2011 - Oct 2015
    San Francisco, California, Us
LocBox helps offline/local businesses generate revenue and foot traffic from existing and new customers with campaigns that run on Email, Facebook, Facebook Ads, Twitter, Google AdWords and the business' own website - all from one universal dashboard. In a market filled with channel-focused and tool-focused products we are building a product that works backwards from the SMB's objectives (Revenue, Reputation, Repeat and New Customers) and delivers on those objectives better than everyone else, while also hiding most of the complexity inherent to modern online Marketing. We are in the early innings of this endeavor given the deceptively complex nature of the problem and the associated solutions. But in our (highly biased) view we have gone farther in this worthy endeavor than everyone else. As Founder/CEO duties have varied over time and include/included-- Setting product vision and general direction. Stubborn on vision, flexible on details-- Overall P&L management in the business and key levers of the business including cash position, gross margin, operating income (loss, really) management. -- Executive team management, direction, KPI-setting and measurement-- Building first prototype when I was starting up-- Raising seed round-- Recruiting a great co-founder and early team-- Raising Series A with great investors-- Recruiting Heads of Sales, Success, Operations, Marketing, Engineering and in general recruiting team members through any and all means possible. Have likely talked to 1000+ prospective candidates over 4 years to build a team of 40. Hiring is hard but so damn worthwhile to get right (and highly painful when wrong)-- Defining early versions of the product end-end before eventually firing myself from the role with a much better hands-on Head of Product. -- Reading customer feedback and calling customers to understand positive and negative feedback-- + everything else in between that goes in running a 40 person operation across teams

  • Voltage Security
    Software Design Engineer
    Voltage Security Aug 2005 - Mar 2007
    Sunnyvale, Ca, Us
Software Engineer in Voltage Security's Server engineering team. Worked with senior developers to implement Voltage's Secure Messaging software. Also spent requisite amount of time getting intimidated by the sheer brainpower of the cryptographers and other security experts in the room. Learned a lot about building software in a small startup. Watched the messy realities of birthing, marketing and selling enterprise software products in a small startup, up close and personal. Learned by doing and through continual (and likely sometimes annoying) probing and asking questions of anyone that would care to share their experiences with me. Voltage Security was acquired by HP in 2015.
