Hortonworks and Cloudera were the creators of the Big Data market. Hortonworks was one of the fastest companies to surpass $100M in ARR, then went through the mainstream adoption of Big Data by Global 1000 customers and had a “Merger of Equals” with Cloudera. I ran 80% of the P&L at Hortonworks (i.e. Hortonworks Data Platform aka the core Big Data distribution adopted by Global 1000s), led many major open source products from concept to launch to pricing (Apache Ozone, Data Plane, Hybrid Cloud, Kubernetes) and also had other open source products such as Apache Spark, Apache Kafka (primarily owned by Databricks, Confluent) etc in my portfolio. I was also involved in pricing (support to subscription transition), open source licensing (Apache, AGPL) and stayed for 4 months after Cloudera & Hortonworks merger.

As a member of the executive staff at Skyera, led a high-performing team with the charter of Product Management, Technical Marketing, Technical Publication (Docs), Partner Training and Program Management. At Western Digital, leveraged the acquired IP to target NoSQL workloads in Tier-2 Cloud Provider market.

Led the server and desktop virtualization strategy in a $3B business unit and delivered an overarching 3-4 year blueprint to protect the cash cow (VMware backup) and proliferate into the emerging market (Hyper-V, KVM/OpenStack backup was 30-40% of the market). Additionally, responsible for GTM of virtualization portfolio and instrumental in making BRS products part of Vblock (VCE) and VSPEX channel.

As the general manager of a $600M/Yr. P&L, rallied engineering, product marketing, and technical sales team around three pillars: Smart innovation (innovation in virtualization and enterprise Flash storage (two patents)); Partnership (EMC/VMware/Microsoft/Violin Memory); Repositioning (spotlight on the features and benefits than speed and feeds). Brocade gained 10% share in Enterprise FC SAN market ($600M/Yr. P&L) and FCoE lost its momentum.Post Brocade’s acquisition of a SAN competitor (McData), transitioned three different product lines ($400M/Yr.) into a new product line with just <$1M inventory exposure. This SAN playbook was adopted across Brocade.

Led a team of 13 engineers to deliver a major multi-tenant scalability feature, requiring major changes to the SAN OS. Partnered with Agilent and Spirent Product Management to develop industry’s first simulation test tools to cut down CAPEX of actual devices by X10-20. Developed complex algorithms in scripting languages to enable 100% automation of Brocade’s test suite.
