As an Engineering Cadet I spent 70 days aboard the USNS Arctic, a fast combat support ship designated as the Duty Oiler supporting the Navy Atlantic Fleet. Working alongside Licensed Engineers, Electrical Technicians, Refrigeration Engineers and Machinists I learned and built skills necessary to operate gas turbine propulsion and electrical power plants. Spending a month in port, I worked with MARMC technicians borescoping compressor, combustor and high pressure blades on General Electric LM2500 Gas Turbine Engines. I learned the specific tolerances on turbine blades and when blades needed to be replaces.I researched the fundamentals of the LM2500, how fuel controls the variable stator vanes and governs the speed of the gas generator and the control logic of start up, shut down and load changes. I always find something interesting to learn on gas turbine engines and hope to keep learning!

Training Ship Golden Bear

Worked on TSGB (Training Ship Golden Bear) as an Engine Cadet. I helped out the Engineering Department on the ship and learned about systems and how to trouble shoot in the engine room. I learned about the main propultion system, boiler system, fresh water and salt water systems and more.
