Senior ScientistValtedseq Aug 2021 - Present• Support and lead cross-functional team efforts with neuroscience/neurodegenerative disease-based strategic inputs to advance the understanding and interpretation of internally generated single-nuclei RNA-seq/bioinformatics-driven data from the standpoint of neurodegenerative diseases and identify novel targets with potential for therapeutic and/or biomarker development. • Lead biomarker assay development for neurodegenerative diseases: Develop planning and strategy, design experimental studies, and supervise and manage a team of a scientist and technicians for liquid biopsy-based biomarker assay development and clinical and analytical validation of the biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease using high-sensitivity ELISA platform.• Write reports and technical/white papers for internal and external communications, prepare and present research internally, externally as well as at international scientific meetings/conferences.• Provide overall support to our cross-functional teams as a scientific advisor. -
Research Associate, FacultyThe Johns Hopkins University School Of Medicine Sep 2016 - Jul 2021Baltimore, Md, Us• Developed liquid biopsy-based biomarker assays for Parkinson’s disease using high-sensitivity ELISA platforms. • Contributed to a patent on Biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases.• Developed and performed preclinical research to evaluate neuroprotective efficacy of antisense oligonucleotides in Parkinson’s disease.• Identified and validated a novel molecular target of alpha-synuclein neurodegeneration using genetic and idiopathic PD relevant rodent models of Parkinson’s disease and alpha synucleionopathies.• Generated and characterized novel genetic rodent models of Parkinson’s disease.• Directly mentored and supervised a group of undergraduate and graduate students, and a research technician.• Contributed significantly to many internal collaborations.• Led efforts in many external collaborations with both academia and industries.• Wrote and published papers as senior author and co-author, wrote grants and progress reports. -
Post Doctoral FellowThe Johns Hopkins University School Of Medicine Sep 2010 - Aug 2016Baltimore, Md, UsI generated and characterized novel genetic rodent models to identify and validate biological targets of alpha-synuclein neurodegeneration. I identified and characterized c-Abl, a highly promising target for both therapeutic and biomarker development. Additionally, I identified a novel posttranslational modification of alpha-synuclein that contributes to Parkinson’s disease neurodegeneration. My study provided the first compelling evidence that c-Abl is a biological target of alpha-synuclein. I further contributed to the development of preclinical studies targeting c-Abl.• Discovery of c-Abl as a target led to the development of novel c-Abl kinase inhibitors with improved selectivity and conduction of multiple clinical trials.• Directly mentored and supervised research activity of undergraduate students.• Played significant role in collaborative research.• Wrote and published papers as senior author and co-author, wrote grants and progress reports. -
Post Doctoral Research FellowRush University Medical Center Jul 2009 - Aug 2010Chicago, Illinois, Us -
Graduate Research AssistantRush University Medical Center, Chicago, Il, Usa Jul 2006 - May 2009Chicago, Illinois, UsI investigated immunoregulatory and neuroinflammatory mechanisms related neurodegenerative diseases with emphasis on Multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s diseases, and Parkinson’s disease. • Identified novel roles of iNOS-derived nitric oxide in immunomodulation.• Identified intermediates of cholesterol biosynthesis pathway as druggable targets contributing to neuroinflammation.• Preclinically evaluated repurposing of compounds for anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective efficacy using EAE (Experimental allergic encephalomyelitis), an animal model of multiple sclerosis. • Contributed to six first-authored publications, a first-authored review, a book chapter, as well as co-authored publications.• Gave both oral and poster presentations at scientific meetings/conferences. -
Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Nebraska Aug 2002 - Jun 2006Lincoln, Nebraska, UsI studied mechanisms of glial activation and immunomodulation relevant to neurodegenerative diseases.• Identified a novel role of iNOS-derived nitric oxide in astrogliosis.• Transferred to graduate program in Neuroscience, Department of Neurological Sciences, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. -
