I coached a team of student cooks and ensure proper food handling guidelines were followed. I was responsible for making sure all daily tasks and cleaning were completed to company standards. I also prepared various meals for customers, prepared ingredients, cleaned, and trained new employees.

This research took place in Iowa State University's Animal Science Department. The goal of my summer project was to identify RNA expression of two important immunological genes in chicken spleens across three genetic lines and over time. During this internship I became proficient with laboratory safety and protocols. I gained experience working with laboratory equipment such as pipettes, centrifuges, tissue lysers and Q-PCR machines. I also learned how to isolate RNA from tissues, prepare samples for analysis, and how to interpret information gained from Q-PCR reactions. I also attended many professional development seminars, and presented my research through a speech and a poster symposium.

My undergraduate research project took place in the Entomology Department at KSU. There, I learned hands-on about using the scientific method, and how to professionally prepare, conduct, and present research. My project focused on brown recluse spiders and a material that could help repel these common household pests. I fed and handled spiders and placed them in situations to test and record their behavior in certain prepared environments. I presented my final results at a research symposium and my work was published in Kansas State University's database
