For two years I have participated in educational labs that taught campers at Drift Creek Outdoor School and youngers students for field trips about the importance of the health of our aquatic invertebrates in our local streams and rivers, as well as performing several dissections on adult steelhead. I have also acted as an assistant to my mentor as she did her regular clearing of the salmon ladders lining the Siletz River, donating the hatchery fish to Food Bank while also tagging and releasing (monitoring population) wild salmon and steelhead. I worked as an EBA on ODFW's Aquatic Inventories Project sampling fish with a 5 foot rotary screw trap in the Salmon River at Otis, Oregon. I checked the trap daily, ensuring safe working conditions of the trap, sampling migrating fish from the live box, identifying fish to species, measuring, weighing, clipping, and PIT tagging juvenile Coho salmon and steelhead.
